The Vineland native has won his second Super Bowl in just his second professional season. Pacheco had 59 rushing yards and 33 receiving yards in the Chiefs' thrilling 25-22 overtime win over the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII on Sunday, Feb. 11.
After the game, Pacheco talked about the championship win with CBS Sports HQ with a Puerto Rican flag draped around his shoulders.
"It sounds so sweet just now, two-time Super Bowl champion," said Pacheco. "It's sweet. Last year, I was unsatisfied. This year, I knew there was room for improvement."
Unfortunately for Pacheco, the Super Bowl was not as great for him as the rest of the playoffs. He had scored a touchdown in the three prior games.
Pacheco lost a fumble inside the 10-yard line in the second quarter, preventing the Chiefs from scoring their first points. That fumble sparked an angry reaction from tight end Travis Kelce, who shoved head coach Andy Reid in frustration.
The former Rutgers player talked about bouncing back from his first fumble of the season at a very bad time.
"It was a bad thing but knowing that my teammates had my back, we got what we all need, having that support, it mattered," he told CBS Sports. "The game was not over. There was a lot of game left."
Pacheco responded with two catches for nine receiving yards and six rushing yards on the Chiefs game-winning drive in overtime. He's the first running back in NFL history to win two Super Bowls in his first two seasons, according to Fox Sports writer Peter Schrager.
Pacheco was one of at least six people with New Jersey ties in Super Bowl LVIII. Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy was born in Plainfield and he also won his second Super Bowl.
The Niners had two other former Scarlet Knights on the team: safety Logan Ryan and defensive lineman Sebastian Joseph-Day. They also had safety Ji'Ayir Brown from Trenton and Newark-born defensive lineman Kevin Givens.
Rutgers said Pacheco is among 18 Scarlet Knights alums who have won a Super Bowl.
